How to Land an Ethnicity Scholarship

Ethnicity based scholarships are those which emphasize students based on race, religion or color, just be proud of it and you might just earn a free trip to college! Mostly, scholarship granting committees look for students who are active or participative in community-based projects and activities. Exhibiting some leadership potential is a plus and one who shows pride of his or her origins is a must. Pride can be shown through supporting a cultural group, learning a native language or just by simply being an advocate in the preservation of one's cultural heritage, customs, and traditions. Organizations funding these type of scholarships generally hope that once the students graduate and becomes successful in their chosen field of studies, they will go back and return the favor by supporting their own ethnic communities. Qualification-wise, most ethnicity-based scholarships require a high GPA to prove a student's academic inclination and virtuosity. There are many ethnicity-based scholarships, listed below are some of them: The Hispanic Scholarship Fund -- an organization which aims to further the educational advancement of Hispanic students. Hispanics are now considered the largest minority group in the United States. They offer grants to graduating Latino high school students entering college, existing college students and lastly, graduate students. National Italian American Foundation -- scholarships from this organization are bestowed on Italian students or to non-Italians who would like to study the Italian language and culture in college. The Korean American Scholarship Foundation, the Japanese American Citizen's League, and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Inc - functions the same as the National Italian American Foundation. The United Negro College Fund --bestows a wide range of scholarships to minority students in general; from tuition to travel expenses and others more. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also gives scholarships to select students from the minority group, however, requirements for qualification varies for each chapter, so applicants will need to check their local chapter to know the eligibility rules. There are plenty more institutions that grant ethnicity based scholarships. Other trade associations offer the same to deserving minority students who would like to continue studying but doesn’t have the funds to do so.
